Pantone Colour of 2022

Inventiveness & creativity, count us in

Drum roll please… the Pantone Color Institute™ the international authority on colour, have announced the colour trend for the year ahead. Beyond announcing the colour, for the first time, Pantone have used this occasion to invent a Colour of the Year, adding to just over 1,800 existing solid colours within their range.

And the headline is PANTONE 17-3938, which is known as Very Peri! It’s the familiarity and consistency of a blue with energy that comes from a violet red undertone. It is a unique colour for a unique time, as the world looks to move beyond the uncertainty created by the pandemic. Pantone believe that its “courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity”.

Pantone’s selection process involves looking for colour influences from across the world, in our lifestyles and through technological development. It’s about picking up on trends and the emotions that colour evokes. Transformation is the headline theme for 2022. Pantone believe that Very Peri reflects the transition we have seen in our lives, and how the interaction between our physical and digital experiences have changed.

What does this mean for me you might ask?

Well the Pantone Colour of the Year filters through into product development and high street trends. Your audience may be subliminally tuned into it for 2022, so it’s a useful power to harness in your creative projects.

We work with the Pantone colour framework everyday here at Systematic, to generate creative ideas and harmonise brand designs, using its psychology and emotion to create impact. If you’ve got projects that need a splash of colour and creativity to improve their impact, we’d be very happy to chat!
